What trains does SAR operate?

SAR operates CAF manufactured day trains comprising 2 locomotives and 9 passenger coaches.  Our trains are capable of reaching speeds of 200 km/h and include family sections, prayer areas and a restaurant car.
Each day train comprises 444 seats, including 120 in Business Class, 322 in Economy Class and 2 wheelchair spaces.

What facilities are available at stations?

A range of customer facilities are available at SAR stations for your comfort.  For full details of the facilities at each station, please visit www.sar.com.sa 

Are there car rental services available at the stations?

Yes, you can rent a car from all SAR stations. Taxis are also available outside the station.

How can I reserve a ticket?

Bookings can be made using the SAR mobile app, online at www.sar.com.sa or in person at any SAR station.  Reservations can also be made by calling 920000329.

What are the payment options available?

We offer you the flexiblity of paying for tickets online using the following methods:
1- Credit card, Sadad OLP or Sadad Bills.
2- Mada debit card payments. 
3- Debit card (Visa, mastercard).

Can I go to the station without having a booking?

Yes, if you prefer you can purchase a ticket for travel on SAR services from the ticket office at any SAR station, however our cheapest tickets will always be available online in advance.

How do I receive my ticket after payment?

You’ll receive an email with your ticket confirmation and a SMS notification with your ticket.

Can tickets be amended or refunded?

Tickets can be refunded or updated online, via our mobile app or at any SAR station.  For details of the SAR cancellation and refund policy visit www.sar.com.sa

Can I reserve a seat when I buy a ticket?

Yes, you will select your seat as part of the booking process.

Is my credit card information and personal information safe when booking online?

Yes, we take personal data security seriously and use secure servers to store our data.  When you book using your debit or credit card, your card details are masked in our system and cannot be accessed by our Customer Service or Station staff.

How can I check the fares and train timetable?

Ticket prices and timetable information for SAR trains are available on www.sar.com.sa or on the mobile app.

What checked-in baggage allowance is permitted?

Business Class customers can check-in 1 piece of luggage (up to 80cm long) weighing 32kg (70lbs) maximum.

Economy Class customers can check-in 1 piece of luggage (up to 80cm long) weighing 25kg (55lbs) maximum.

Can I send small non-commercial parcels on the train?

For safety and security reasons, SAR does not accept any personal shipments not accompanying a customer.

What hand baggage allowance is permitted?

Business Class customers can take 1 piece of luggage (maximum size 55cm x 40cm x 25cm), plus a handbag, laptop or briefcase on-board the train.

Economy Class customers can take 1 piece of luggage (maximum size 55cm x 40cm x 25cm) on-board the train.

When does SAR’s baggage check-in desks open/close?

SAR’s baggage check-in desks open 90 minutes prior and close 20 minutes before the stated departure time.  It is recommended that all ticket holders should arrive at the station at least one hour in advance.  Boarding gates will close 5 minutes before the stated departure time.

Can I check in larger baggage such as sports equipment?

Sorry, we are unable to accept large/out size baggage.

Can I pack valuables in my checked-in baggage?

SAR does not accept responsibility for the secure carriage of any valuable items; therefore we recommend that you pack all valuables in your hand baggage.

Are discounts available for disabled customers?

Discounted tickets are available for disabled customers and their accompanying carer.
Registered disabled customers and their careers are eligible to save 1/3 off the adult ticket price in both our Business and Economy coaches.

Do children pay full fare?

No, children aged 2 to 15 years travelling in Economy pay half fare, and 1/3 off in Business Class.
Infants under 2 can travel for free with SAR, but they will not receive a seat reservation. 

My baggage is delayed or missing. What should I do?

If you have lost something on one of our trains or at one of our stations, we will do our best to reunite you with your property.
Please contact any member of staff onboard the train or at the station, as soon as you realise you have left something providing a clear description of the item that is missing, along with your full name, contact details and the service you were travelling on.

Any property found on a train is handed in and kept at the station where the service terminates. Items may take up to 24 hours to reach our lost property offices if found.

We’ll always do what we can to find any lost items on our trains and at stations; however we are not liable for lost or stolen luggage.

Can I receive a wake-up call when travelling on the Night Train?

Yes, all guests travelling in our Private Cabins will be asked by our On-board hosts upon arrival on the train if they require a wakeup call.

How can I get the cheapest fare?

If you buy your train ticket in advance on our website or via our mobile app you will get the best value Business Class and Economy fares. 
You’ll save up to 55% when you book in advance versus the cost of buying a ticket at the station.
You can buy Advance tickets right up until 23:59 on the day before you travel, subject to availability.

Can I get food on the train?

Yes, Business Class and Private Cabin Sleeper passengers will receive complimentary Arabic coffee and dates, a hot meal or snack and hot and cold drinks served to their seat or cabin.
We also offer a range of different options for food and drink which can be purchased by Economy Class customers on-board our trains. 
You can order and eat in our restaurant coach or we will serve you a selection of drinks and snacks to your seat via our at-seat trolley service.

Can I purchase a single bed on-board the Night Train service?

No, all cabins on our night trains are available on a private basis only.  Our Private Cabins sleep up to four persons, for one set price.
Two types of Private Cabins are available – Family and Single (Male).
Private Cabins – Family are suitable for males and females, children and infants.
Private Cabins – Single (Males) are appropriate for male adults and children only.

Do the Night Train services have showers?

No, our night train services do not have showers. 
Shared toilet and wash basin facilities are available on board and within the stations.

Can I travel in a Private Cabin if there are less than 4 people in my group?

Yes, our Private Cabins are available for between one and four people for one set price.
Private Cabins can be purchased for one, two, three or four people sharing.

What facilities are available with a Private Sleeper Cabin?

Our Private Cabins are all air-conditioned and non-smoking, and we provide a cosy duvet, pillow, bedside lighting, garment hangers, free Wi-Fi, a reading light, USB charge points and shared toilet and wash basin facilities.

What is included within a Sleep Pack?

All customers travelling within a Private Cabin and in Business Class (Night Train services only), will receive a complimentary SAR Sleep Pack, featuring a deluxe eye mask, dental kit, hand cream and ear plugs.

Can my child travel with SAR without an adult?

Sorry, we are unable to accept unaccompanied children under 12 years old on SAR.
Minors can however travel with SAR if a nominated person 18 years old or above accompanies them and takes responsibility for them as their parent, legal guardian or companion.

Do I have to book a seat for my infant?

If you are travelling with an infant under 2 years old, they will not receive a seat reservation.
Infants may use a seat, if it’s not occupied by a fare-paying customer.  Alternatively you can buy a child ticket for your infant and reserve a seat for their journey.


How do I make arrangements for special assistance?

You do not have to pre-book assistance to use SAR services; however as wheelchair spaces are limited to two per day train, we strongly advise you to book in advance online to avoid disappointment.
If you would like assistance, please inform any member of staff upon arrival at the station.

What documents do I need when travelling?

All customers must carry their Saudi ID/Iqama or passport with them whilst travelling.

How many people can occupy a Private Sleeper Cabin?

The maximum occupancy rate in our Private Cabins is four persons inclusive of children and infants.

What if I am late to the board gate?

If you are late to the boarding gate, your booking will be cancelled and no refund due.

Are Private Sleeper Cabins suitable for customers in wheelchairs?

Unfortunately, our Private Cabins are not suitable for customers in wheelchairs.
Our Night Trains have a designated wheelchair space and an accessible toilet located in our seated accommodation.

Do Private Cabin customers receive access to the Business Class lounge?

Yes, all guests travelling in one of our Private Cabins will enjoy access to our Business Class lounge at your departure station.

Can the Private Cabins accommodate a cot-bed for my infant?

No, there is not space within our Private Cabins to accommodate a cot-bed for infants.
Please note that children (5 to 15 years) travelling in our Private Sleeper Cabins must occupy the room with at least one other adult (18+) in their group.  Children and Infants (0 to 4 years) in our Private Cabins must be accompanied by an adult at a ratio of 1:1. 
Children over the age of 5 must sleep in their own bed, and the maximum occupancy rate in our Private Cabins is four inclusive of children and infants.
It is recommended that children and infants under the age of 5 occupy the lower beds only.

Can SAR provide me with a wheelchair at the station?

Yes, all our stations have a ready supply of wheelchairs for customers requiring mobility assistance.

Can I take a baby stroller on board?

Yes, baby strollers are permitted to be taken on board SAR trains.  Please ensure your baby stroller is folded down during the journey and stored in a luggage rack.

What options will I be offered if my SAR train is cancelled?

In the unfortunate event of a train cancellation you will be offered the following options:
1) Move to an alternative train or date.
2) If no suitable train or date is available, you may cancel your booking and a full refund will be provided.

Can my pet travel with SAR?

No pets are permitted to travel with SAR.

Are discounts available for disabled customers and cancer patients?

Registered disabled customers and cancer patients are eligible to save 50% off the adult ticket price in both our Business and Economy coaches*.

Can I use my own wheelchair?

Yes, disabled customers in wheelchairs can travel in the comfort of their own wheelchair, or alternatively larger electric/battery powered wheelchairs can be checked-in and you will be assisted into one of the wheelchairs provided by SAR. 

Do children receive a discount on Night Train services?

Children aged 2 to 15 years travelling in Economy Class seats pay half fare, and 1/3 off in Business Class seats on our Night Train services.
Infants under 2 can travel for free with SAR in seated accommodation, but they will not receive a seat reservation.
Our Private Sleeper Cabins are available for one set price for up to four persons (including children and infants), so there is no discount given for children and infants in our sleeping accommodation.

What if I miss my train?

If you don’t arrive in time for your train, your booking will be cancelled and no refund due.
