What we do
With a main line stretching from Riyadh towards the north, to Qurayyat on the Jordanian border, passing through Majmaa, Qassim, Hail and Jauf, and a freight line running from the phosphate mine in Al Jalamid ,near Arar in the northern border region, towards the south to connect with the original route near Jauf, the third line runs towards the east passing through the bauxite mines in Al-Baitha in Qassim region, and reaching the processing and export facilities of Maaden Company in Ras Al-Khair on the Arabian Gulf.
It is the oldest railway network in the Kingdom, with a length of 733 km, through which passenger services are provided between the cities of Riyadh and Dammam, passing through the governorates of Al-Ahsa and Abqaiq. And freight train services between Riyadh and Dammam, passing through Al-Kharj, Al-Ahsa, Abqaiq, Haradh and Al-Tawdiya.
SAR owns the infrastructure of the Haramain High-Speed Railway, and it is currently operated by a consortium of Spanish companies. HHR is considered one of the 10 fastest trains in the world, with a speed of 300 km per hour. The passenger train runs on an electrified railway with a length of 449 km which links Makkah and Medina while passing through three stations: Sulaymaniyah station in Jeddah, King Abdul-Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, and King Abdullah Economic City near Rabigh.
"SAR" provides reliable shipping services within the best international standards. "Cargo freight trains” transport about 350 thousand containers of goods annually, while the "Mineral freight trains" contribute to the transportation of millions of tons of materials, with a capacity of more than 11 million tons annually, through a network of more than 2,700 km.
"SAR" Freight Train Network uses the advanced European system "ETCS L2 -" to enhance the safety of railway traffic by reducing the rate of human error to zero levels. So as to achieve more transport reliability.
