Ticket Conditions

Customers must bring an original copy of their identification (electronic copies of KSA ID and Iqama are also accepted) when buying a ticket and when traveling to ensure conformity of the names and ages of all customers.

Passengers must ensure that all of their personal details on the ticket are correct. SAR takes no responsibility for such errors.

Valid customer ID must be presented when travelling.

Passengers with a Disability / Cancer Patient ticket holders must present an accredited Disability ID Card or Medical Report (for Cancer Patients) when asked to do by SAR staff at the station or onboard the train.

The accompanying Passenger with a Disability / Cancer Patient ticket holder must hold an accredited Disability ID Card or Medical Report (for Cancer Patients).

Customers are responsible for ensuring they hold a valid ticket applicable for their entire journey. If you do not have a valid ticket for your entire journey, you will be required to purchase a new ticket for your whole journey for the class of travel you are seated in, priced at the highest available fare.

Baggage check-in desks will open 2 hours before departure. Parcel Shipment desks are open at all times during the station opening hours.

Check-in desks for luggage drop off will close 20 minutes prior to the stated departure time. Parcel Shipment desks will close 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

Boarding gates will close 5 minutes before the stated departure time.

The Business Class Lounge will open 2 hours prior to departure.

The ticket office will close 30 minutes before departure for sales and enquiries relating to the departing service.

Children aged from 2 to under 12 years travelling in our seated accommodation must travel with at least one other adult (16+) in their group. Infants under the age of 2 must be accompanied by an adult (16+) at a ratio of 1:1.

Children and infants travelling in a SAR North Train Private Sleeper Cabin must occupy the room with at least one other adult (16+) in their group. Children and infants under the age of 5 in our Private Sleeper Cabins must be accompanied by an adult (16+) at a ratio of 1:1. Children over the age of 5 must have their own bed. The maximum occupancy rate in our Private Sleeper Cabins is four inclusive of children and infants.

Customers must sit/sleep in the carriage and seat, cabin and bed number allocated to them on their ticket. SAR reserves the right to reallocate seats, cabins and beds at short notice.

Customers are entitled to a refund and/or compensation in line with SAR’s Passenger Charter commitments when services are cancelled or delayed beyond 2 hours owing to circumstances within SAR’s control.

When a service is cancelled due to force majeure (meaning any event that affects the contract between SAR and its passengers that cannot be expected to happen, that happens due to external factors outside of SAR’s control, and that cannot be avoided making it impossible for SAR to perform its obligations), SAR will be exempt from providing passengers with compensation in line with the Passenger Charter, apart from providing customers with a full ticket refund.

If customers are late to the boarding gate, no show rates will apply to tickets cancelled up to 24 hours after the scheduled departure time. No refunds will be provided after this time.

All tickets are non-transferable, and can only be used by the named person on the ticket.

All travelers onboard SAR trains and at SAR stations should have no communicable disease that would jeopardize the safety of other passengers and staff at the station and onboard the train.

SAR has the right to prevent or refuse the transportation of any traveler who may be a medical threat to other passengers and staff, and/or owing to their medical condition may cause a delay to the service.

In a case of an abrupt health deterioration onboard the train, SAR accepts no liability to an ill passenger (or pregnant lady) who fails to identify themselves prior to departure, and has the right to remove the passenger from the train at the next station to obtain medical assistance.

SAR and any of its third parties may use personal information submitted by you for the purpose of statistical analysis, market research, customer studies, customer relations and product and service development.

Discounts are not applicable to special offers or promotional fares.

SAR reserves the right to amend ticket prices at any time. SAR also reserves the right to cancel, amend or reschedule any promotional offers without notice.

Gregorian’s dates are the official dates that will be used on all tickets.

All times on SAR tickets are in 24 hour format.

Infants under 2 will not receive a seat reservation or luggage allowance in Business Class or Economy Class. Infants under 2 will not receive a luggage allowance in our Private Sleeper Cabins.

It is strictly prohibited to smoke in all station facilities and inside the train coaches. Failure to comply can lead to penalties.

Abusive language and behavior towards staff will not be tolerated at any time.

Customer’s dress code onboard SAR trains must be in accordance with the traditions of KSA.

It is strictly prohibited to ship any kind of meat, weapons, flammable materials and compressed containers. The carriage of weapons and sharp items on-board is strictly prohibited.

In the interest of customer safety, children must be supervised at all times.

Baby strollers are not permitted to be transported onboard the train, and must be checked-in to our luggage car.

The transportation of animals is not permitted.

Customers are responsible for ensuring they understand the correct location of their departure train station. Directions to all SAR train stations can be found on Our Stations page.

By purchasing a ticket from Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), you agree and accept to all of the terms and conditions listed and all policies contained within SAR’s Passenger Charter.

It is not permitted to use electric-powered scooters (e-scooters), as well as other recreational mobility devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, on trains or in stations facilities.
