About the Al-Mashaer Train
The Al-Mashaer Al-Muqaddasah
The Al-Mashaer Al-Muqaddasah Line is a railway that connects Makkah with the Holy Sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. The project was launched in 2008 by the China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (Saudi branch), with a total cost of SAR 6.65 billion, and officially inaugurated in November 2010. It is supervised by the Makkah Region Development Authority.
The project consists of 17 trains comprising 204 carriages, with each carriage accommodating 300 passengers. Each train has a front and rear driving cabin. The track extends approximately 18.1 kilometers, elevated 8–10 meters above ground level, reaching up to 45 meters near the Jamarat facility. Its operational capacity is 72,000 passengers per hour.
The line includes nine stations, each about 300 meters long. It starts in Makkah, then passes through three stations in Arafat, three stations in Muzdalifah, followed by one at the entrance of Mina, another in the middle of Mina, and ends at the fourth level of the Jamarat Bridge.
